Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center Announces 10th Anniversary 2012-2013 Season

Celebrating the significant history of dance at the Music Center with presentations by three enduring partners - Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre and The Joffrey Ballet - whose local presence spans the past five decades.

A World Premiere and a U.S. Debut by two of the most influential choreographers of the 21st century - Benjamin Millepied(L.A. Dance Project) and Christopher Wheeldon(The National Ballet of Canada), set to new music by two acclaimed young composers - Nico Muhly (L.A. Dance Project) and Joby Talbot (The National Ballet of Canada). 

April 16, 2012 – Los Angeles. Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center announces the tenth anniversary season of its internationally known dance series, which will kick off September 22 at Walt Disney Concert Hall with the World Premiere of the inaugural full-length program by L.A. Dance Project, (LADP), founded by celebrated choreographer Benjamin Millepied and commissioned by Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center. Millepied, in addition to creating a World Premiere for the stage of the Music Center, will present “Quintett” by William Forsythe (1993), and “Winterbranch” by Merce Cunningham (1964). 

The 2012-2013 season continues at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with the U.S. debut of The National Ballet of Canada’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon(October 19-21, 2012), followed by the return of The Joffrey Ballet dancing two programs, both of which will include the 100^th anniversary (and 25^th anniversary of Joffrey premiere of this reconstruction at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion) of “Le Sacre du Printemps/Rite of Spring” (February 1-3, 2013).  Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (April 17-21, 2013) will appear at the Music Center for the first time under the direction of Robert Battle with 3 different programs of mixed repertory, followed by a 3 performance engagement of the Off-Broadway hit fusing circus, dance, music, and street performance, Traces (April 26-28, 2013) which is also presented as part of the Blue Ribbon Children’s Festival for over 18,000 5^th graders. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Alonzo King LINES Ballet will follow as they share the stage to present a new work by LINES Ballet Artistic Director Alonzo King (June 21-23, 2013).  American Ballet Theatre will close the season with both an opening night of mixed repertory and 4 performances of the company’s new production of “Le Corsaire” (July 11-14, 2013).
