Inlet Dance Theatre World Premiere Set to Play PlayhouseSquare, 11/16

Inlet-Dance-Theatre-World-Premiere-Set-to-Play-PlayhouseSquare-1116-20010101

Inlet Dance Theatre presents the globally-focused world premieres of the evening-length work Center of the Earth (Te Pito o te Henua) and a preview of a new work by Creative Fusion international artist Kapila Palihawanda at PlayhouseSquare on Friday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $10 and may be purchased online at playhousesquare.org, by calling 216-241-6000 or at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office (1519 Euclid Ave.).

Created in response to an Ohio Arts Council international exchange program with artists from Easter Island (Rapa Nui), Center of the Earth (Te Pito o te Henua) uses the Inlet Dance Theatre’s unique aesthetic and brand of modern dance to reference Rapa Nui cultural icons, environmental images such as the ocean and lava caves, and focus on global themes of community, identity and gender roles. Center of the Earth (Te Pito o te Henua) is choreographed by Executive/Artistic Director Bill Wade in collaboration with the cast.

Center of the Earth (Te Pito o te Henua) is made possible in part by the Launch artist residency program of PlayhouseSquare, designed to promote invention and innovation in performance and to foster new relationships between Northeast Ohio artists and the public. An excerpt of the work was presented at PlayhouseSquare’s annual Dance Showcase on September 7, 2012.

Kapila Palihawadana is in residence with Inlet Dance Theatre through November, through the Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion International Artist Residency Program. Palihawanda, Artistic Director of nATANDA Dance Theatre of Sri Lanka, blends traditional Sri Lankan dance with yoga and contemporary dance theater.

A performance of Center of the Earth (Te Pito o te Henua) for school field trips is scheduled for Friday, November 16 at 11 a.m. Educators interested in bringing their students to the performance may call 216-348-7909 for information.

PlayhouseSquare is a not-for-profit performing arts center whose mission is presenting and producing a wide variety of quality performing arts, advancing arts education and creating a destination that is a superior location for entertainment, business and residential living, thereby strengthening the economic vitality of the region.
