Juan Carlos Amy-Cordero of Eugene Ballet Company's Commits Suicide At Age 28

Juan Carlos Amy-Cordero, of the Eugene Ballet Company, was found dead in his home late Wednesday night of an apparent suicide. He was only 28 years old.

According to reports, Amy-Cordero's wife couldn't reach him when she was traveling. A friend checked in on him and found a suicide note on the door.

Juan Carlos joined Eugene Ballet Company in 2002 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2007. As a member of Eugene Ballet Company, he has danced in over 50 of the company's ballets in over 55 cities on tour including Anchorage, Portland, and Victoria, B.C., Canada. Before joining Eugene Ballet Company, Juan Carlos entered the Boston Ballet School in 1993 and danced with the Boston Ballet from 1999-2001. Juan Carlos was also a scholarship student with the San Francisco Ballet School and the school at Jacob's Pillow, where he danced in theLandmark Gala. With the Eugene Ballet Company Juan Carlos has danced with many orchestras, opera companies, and arts organizations throughout the northwest including the Eugene Symphony, Eugene Opera, Oregon Bach Festival, Eugene Concert Choir, and Oregon Mozart Players to name a few.
