KEIGWIN + COMPANY Sets 2012 Season at The Joyce, Begins With 12 Chairs

KEIGWIN + COMPANY (K+C) returns to The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue, NYC, for its annual weeklong season including the World Premieres of three new dances on June 12- 17, 2012. Performances: Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm; Thursday through Saturday at 8pm; Sunday at 2pm & 7:30pm. Tickets are $10-$49 and can be purchased at JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800 or joyce.org. K+C returns to The Joyce in 2012 with three World Premieres that combine Larry Keigwin's theatricality and wit, ranging from a work for 12 dancers set to a score by electronic composer Jonathan Pratt, to a quartet for the company's male dancers and a solo danced by Artistic Director Larry Keigwin. With a cast of 12 dancers, 12 Chairs will explore rejection and survival with driving physicality, using the game "musical chairs" as an inspirational launching point. Keigwin's solo, titled Panic, will mark his first solo in nearly a decade and will investigate the sensations of fear and anxiety.The quartet for four men, Contact Sport, will utilize highly athletic and vigorous movement to examine the ever-evolving relationships between four brothers, accompanied by the iconic sounds of Eartha Kitt. Celebrated by The New York Times as "divinely well-structured," Megalopolis will round out the program. This dazzling work blends a futuristic urban vision with nightclub camp to a mash up of minimalism and hip-hop.

KEIGWIN + COMPANY's 2012 season at The Joyce Theater and the creation of 12 Chairs has been made possible with support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Contact Sport was commissioned by the American Dance Festival with support from the SHS Foundation. Megalopolis was commissioned by the Dance Division of The Juilliard School.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Founded in 2003 by Artistic Director Larry Keigwin and Associate Director Nicole Wolcott, KEIGWIN + COMPANY creates and presents Keigwin's electrifying brand of contemporary dance. K+C reaches national and international audiences and invigorates diverse communities with a refreshing vision of dance that embodies a theatrical sensibility of wit, style, and heart. Community projects and education seek to physically engage audiences and aspiring dancers in movement and the choreographic process, and bring opportunities for individuals to become more invested in dance. Since K+C's premiere performance at Joyce Soho, Keigwin has created 16 dances, including the large-scale Bolero and recent acclaimed works such as Runaway (2008), the site-specific Sidewalk (2009) and Bird Watching (2010).

Over the past nine years, K+C has presented performances throughout NYC and nationwide. K+C has received grants and generous support from National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the American Music Center Live Music for Dance Program, The Greenwall Foundation, The Harkness Foundation for Dance, The O'Donnell-Green Music & Dance Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, The Jerome Robbins New Essential Works Program, The Jerome Robbins Foundation, The Christian Keesee Charitable Trust, Dianne & Daniel Vapnek Family Fund, and the Royce Family Fund.
