Movie and TV star Khalil Kain will play Billy Rhythm, the lead character in DC Copeland's Jitterbug! He will be joining award-winning director Petronia Paley and Emmy nominated choreographer Jeffrey Page in the music and dance-filled reading. Jitterbug! was invited by Artistic Director Paul Adams of the Emerging Artists Theatre to participate in the "invitation only" annual New Works Festival championing new musicals.
Jitterbug! is the quintessential American love story woven between the lives and times of legendary black entertainers, black and white thugs, and the common man in swinging 1930's Harlem. Based on a thoroughly researched history of black entertainment during the first half of the 20th Century, it chronicles how black and white lawbreakers, musicmakers, and poets came together out of sheer circumstance, desperation, and greed to contribute to the Great American Songbook and make Harlem America's most mythic city.
The reading will take place at 9pm, Saturday, March 23rd at Tada! Theatre, 15 W 28th Street. Tickets are $10.00. You can learn more at www.ouatih.com.
