Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) celebrates its upcoming 52nd season and the 10th anniversary season of Artistic Director Ben Stevenson O.B.E. by announcing the 2012-2013 Season – "Two Great Cities, One Great Company!" Texas Ballet Theater is proud to represent the Metroplex as the only resident professional ballet company for all of North Texas and is excited to bring another thrilling season of ballet to our great cities! TBT will perform this season of exhilarating dance in four fantastic venues: The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall, Music Hall at Fair Park, AT&T Performing Arts Center Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre.
About the 2012-2013 Season
The season opens Friday, October 19 at the Bass Performance Hall with the bad boy of ballet, Peer Gynt! Ben Stevenson choreographed this ballet as an adaptation of the Norwegian fairy tale Per Gynt and dramatist Henrick Ibsen's 5 act play. The lead character, whose life can only be described as supreme procrastination and avoidance, will entertain audiences with his life experiences that include betrayal, seduction, imprisonment and true love. Peer Gynt runs October 19-21 (4 performances) at Bass Performance Hall and October 26-28 (4 performances) at Music Hall at Fair Park.
Next we present an ALL NEW production of The Nutcracker! From the moment the lights dim, audiences will be transported to a magical place that is filled with waltzing snowflakes, a flying carpet, a glittering swan sleigh, battling mischievous mice, adorable children and breathtaking dancing.
TBT will perform this charming holiday production at the Winspear Opera House November 23 - December 2 (8 performances) and at the Bass Performance Hall December 7 – 23 (16 performances). Last year, Texas Ballet Theater's The Nutcracker sold out multiple performances in both cities, so audiences are encouraged to subscribe and buy tickets early. Only Subscribers receive a 20% discount on The Nutcracker tickets and can purchase before the general public.
For the PG-13+ audience that would like to add extra "Nutty" spice to their holidays, TBT will present The Nutty Nutcracker, the hilarious spoof of the original production. This holiday show has had audiences laughing out loud for 3 consecutive years, and this season's production is sure to do the same and more! The Nutty Nutcracker will be performed at Bass Performance Hall for one night only December 21st at 7:00 pm at Bass Performance Hall.
TBT continues the season with the North Texas premiere of Glen Tetley's Voluntaries at Bass Performance Hall for four performances March 1-3, 2013. Created in 1973 and performed worldwide, audiences will be enthralled by this beautiful and emotional work. In the late Tetley's words, "although there is a fall into gravity or into death, there also is a continual lifting, a continual trying to soar, like angels, in what is almost a constellation of light."
