Pivot Multi-Arts Festival is Presented, 6/6 - 6/22

Pivot Arts launches a new celebration of innovative theater, music and dance in unique and often historic spaces from June 6 – 22, 2013 throughout Chicago's Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods. The inaugural PIVOT MULTI-ARTS FESTIVAL answers the City's call for a reinvigorated Uptown Entertainment District by uniting artists, businesses and local organizations around multidisciplinary “pop-up” performances occurring in a former Vaudeville Theater, an at-one-time Charlie Chaplin film studio and other historic spaces throughout these communities. On May 7th, Ailey returned to Harlem's world-famous Apollo Theater for a one-night-only event which featured performances by the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, rising stars of Ailey II, gifted young dancers from The Ailey School, and talented students from AileyCamp Washington Heights and Newark. In August, 2009 I was greeted by incredibly enthusiastic students on 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. The Juilliard School: this was my new home and although my mom and sisters were overwhelmed by the welcoming committee, they knew I'd fit right in. Orientation lasted one week in which I met students from all over the world, set up my dorm room, and got use to downsizing from my two-bedroom apartment in Las Vegas. The school held several seminars to orient us, and organized outings to help us get our bearings in the city while having some fun before the Juilliard schedule took over our lives! (more...)

RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern dance company with a classic sensibility, has announced its eight-performance New York Season June 4-9, 2013 at The Joyce Theater. The Season includes the World Premiere of Artistic Director/Choreographer Pascal Rioult's newest work, Iphigenia, a dance drama inspired by the Greek heroine of the same name from Euripides' 'Iphigenia in Aulis.' The piece was created in collaboration with Composer Michael Torke and features his newly commissioned score, which will be performed live by the Camerata New York Orchestra. The Season program also includes the critically acclaimed On Distant Shores (2011), the powerful Prelude to Night (2002), and one of the company's signature works, Bolero (2002).
